Hornish Day in Phoenix and Miami, tix sales should rise

You heard a collective sigh of relief in the ticket offices at Phoenix and Homestead-Miami after Penske Racing’s Sam Hornish Jr. was involved in a crash on lap 3 with points leader Jimmie Johnson.

With Johnson’s lead evaporating to 73 points over teammate Mark Martin both city decided to make today Sam Hornish Jr. Day….all kidding aside, this has definitely brought back some excitement to the Chase.

1. Jimmie Johnson  6297  Leader

2. Mark Martin  6224  -73

3. Jeff Gordon  6185   -112

4. Kurt Busch  6126  -171

5. Tony Stewart  6119  -178

More than two hours after making contact Sunday with championship leader Jimmie Johnson at Texas Motor Speedway, Penske Racing’s Sam Hornish Jr. stood with his hands on his head still seeming to be in disbelief.

“I got hit by the 00 [of Reutimann] and didn’t even have time to correct before I got up into Jimmie,” Hornish said. “I don’t ever want to feel like I’ve affected the outcome of the championship when I’m not in it.

Let’s see if this will help ticket sales this week at Phoenix.
